Spiders and Art

Mommy and Daddy and I went to family day at the Institute of Contemporary Art. I was very excited because the ICA was featuring the art of my new favorite artist Louise Bourgeois whose work consists of sculptures, prints, drawings and paintings of spiders. I have recently become fascinated with spiders, both in literature and in real life. Some of my favorites include: the Itsy Bitsy spider and her friend the Big Hairy spider, Charlotte from "Charlotte's Web", the spider who frightened Miss Muffet and the spiders on my Halloween jammies. You can imagine my delight when I saw the 11 foot tall spider sculpture on display (you'll have to imagine it because we weren't allowed to take pictures in the gallery).

The ICA holds programs for kids once a month and I was prepared to wow everyone with my artistic abilities, which are far beyond those typical to my age group. We made sculptures out of every day things. I picked the straws. Mommy and Daddy helped.

I was anxious to get back upstairs to see more spiders and other cool stuff so I finished my project quickly.

Here is my finished product:

Art, like golf, is hard.

Oh my goodness what a beautiful sculpture! The color and detail are amazing. I know you wowed everyone at the museum with your skills. Your Great Grandma knows how hard art is. You'll find her in her lounge chair every afternoon, looking, amazingly like you.
You are one lucky little guy, Ben.
